Read Something Dangerous This Week
A Stories special edition on books that some people consider bad for decent society.
It’s Banned Books Week yet again, seven days to raise awareness of the increasing censorship that’s going on in our country. The rate things are going, it should be an all year outcry. To be fair, we’ve been banning—and burning books—since 1637 but nothing like what’s happening now. You can’t be free if it’s legal for someone or some group or some government agency has the temerity to stop you from reading anything you damn want.
So here in our little rectangle of the world, we’re providing passer-bys the opportunity to own a good book and read it as much as they want!
There’s lots of ways you can stand up for books. For intance this Saturday is Let Freedom Read Day where you can raise your voice in protest, even from the privacy of your favorite place to read!
Here’s what you can do: buy and read books on these lists. They make great presents, too.
