There are pie makers, pie eaters, and you three are Pie Seekers! You know how I love this! I wish I was there to join the fun.

My kind of trip! I love that pie and historic makers are the “Easter eggs” in this hunt. We’re “doing” Route 66 next year. Guess we should add Route 6–and pie—to the road trip bucket list!

Oh! to be along for this pie and diner extravaganza! As you feel up for reminiscing, I will look forward to the tale! Sad to say, that though we have had some rather good pie houses and such, they have all been gone for several decades. The building of the interstates here in Washington state brought fast food drive-ins that killed off most of the family diners and restaurants. The new ones find it very hard to compete. I live in hope that a better economy and small business loans will bring some family owned restaurants to our realm!

It's a hard business just owning and running a restaurant. I think the places we found on Rt 6 survive because the road is a weird in-between of a country road going through small towns that nurture their own and an interstate route that brings commercial and tourist traffic. But there was one place--been there for 68 years, owned by only 2 families--and the waitress said to us that it's always a good day when she finds some of her customers are locals born and bred. More in the story but it was so interesting in so many ways I didn't expect.
