I included a Peanut Butter Chocolate Layer Pie in Pie Camp as a tribute to my mom who loved Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. It has a chocolate cookie crumb crust, a peanut butter layer, a chocolate layer, and is topped with Chantilly cream. It's pretty good but may induce a coma.
you’re not completely sick of it, you should try this never-fail recipe my grammar school teacher and her husband made at their cafe every summer. (You might enjoy the story, too!)
That was one great story! And I wish I had found you before (personal frustration with substack--so many great writers/sites, so few ways to find them). That recipe seems worthy of another try!
Pudding! Of course! Almost all diner recipes start with some kind of pudding, and I mean by that the kind you find in a little box in the supermarket and you mix it with this 'n' that and out it comes. The best cornbread recipe I ever had came from two venerable African American sisters from down home and it included a box of Jiffy mix. Maybe chocolate pudding mix with peanut butter added???
Ha! Thank you! but you know what it was? I opened up my fat mouth and optimistically promised a recipe for this thing to you all! My husband has now hidden the mixer and leftover peanut butter
You are very ambitious! I am not good at pie to begin with, so I admire your efforts. I am picturing Southern chocolate chess pie, but maybe that is too dense. Anyway, yours looks and sounds good to me. What did you do with all the experimental pies?
I wish I had thought of a chess--that'd make a great model/base. Wellll.....the one with a enough good filling I scrapped out and my husband is spreading it over rice cakes. Two complete failures got thrown out. Another I crumbled up the nutty crust more and threw it out to the garden and watched squirrels and birds fight over it. The last two are going to a young friend who loves all things peanut butter and chocolate. All in all a sin.
Hey, you ARE a champ, Pat! Most of us would give up a lot sooner, but now you’ve got me curious. Chocolate and peanut butter are very popular at our house, though after reading about your experience, perhaps we’ll just stick to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups!🥜🍫
No, I'm evil accordingto my family--they are now officially sick of peanut butter, chocolate, and pie--the last a total crime/mortal sin! Also Reese's which is everyone's favorite. I'm going to hell in a hand basket

Boy, this needs to be shared far and wide!

Mixing it with the peanut butter, YES! That would darken it, too. As always, my big sister and you are right!
You're not only ambitious, you're patient, Pat. I would be so done with this project after the second pie. We need more people like you in this world!
