Can not make this stuff up! I'm not sure I've recovered yet but at least I survived, the marriage survived, the kids want to do it again

Just goes to show, you have so much more to teach this girl! Thanks for keeping us alive! And you're responsible if the sons drag us to the Bad Land part

But your side arm did sport a beautiful pearl handle, if I recall.

Great story. We've been all over the Badlands around Death Valley and the Mojave Desert, and the experiences couldn't have been any more different from yours (all that water), but we still recall both your joy and pain. Too many people , especially urbanites like us, never get close enough to the edges of life to comprehend, much less experience, the dimensions of the planet. Loved your cabin story--we've found many an old miner's cabin left as though the owner stepped out for vittles and never returned.

I so agree with you. I think everyone should get kicked out into the wilderness. It makes you see and think differently. Just the fact that we were so totally alone--and in many ways alone with ourselves is transforming. My sons look back on that trip as one of the most formative experiences ion their lives--just to get them out of Brooklyn and in such a spectacular way was important. And, I have to say, despite hating him for dragging me out the, being on the Missouri made me realize even more what a good decision it was to marry this annoyingly good man.

You want to come next time? Seems this has got the same people heartedly suggesting they want to go out again. I may need a shoulder to cry on.

Thank you! Just took 3 days, 11 hours each and 3 nights wondering why I try to be a writer--think the Missouri sun burned out my brain

Thank you--but really, grilled fresh rattlesnake and biscuits served outdoors at 7 am can't be beat (and you know there were other snakes around looking on, so there's that)
