I love your writing and your wry, hilarious sense of humor. I have and treasure your book Pie Every Day. Wishing you a very 🥳 Happy New Year! I look forward to more slices of life, photos, memories and recipes from you in 2025. Your fan, Dana
A very enjoyable roundup, Pat! There are many stories I missed and others I’d like to reread. I also am not up on Elizabeth David, though I feel I ought to be. I can relate to every one of your resolutions and yet I can’t help agreeing with Robert Oliva that New Year’s resolutions don’t work. Still, I wish you success with all of yours!
Elizabeth is a hard nut. I love her feistiness. though, and claiming she is better, at the very least more interesting than Fisher has gotten me into tiffs. But I bet you'll like her a lot. Much much happiness this year to you and your family. I'm so thrilled that in 2023 I met you and l,ove your work! I have a sense that we're going to need one another in the months to come!
I was just reading about Elizabeth David and think you’re right—I would like her a lot. Do you have a suggested book of hers to recommend as a first read?
During the pandemic I ordered a copy of MFK Fisher’s How to Cook a Wolf after learning it was written to inspire folks dealing with wartime shortages and thinking I might learn something useful that applied to our moment. While parts of it are fascinating, it was really specific to the time and already “a period piece,” as Fisher herself deemed it 10 years later when she revised it. I never tried cooking from it, but I’m thinking some recipes might be worth a try—like tomato soup cake!
I’m touched by for your kind wishes and words about my blog. I know this year will be a challenging one in many ways, but it does help to know there are others like yourself writing about it with wit and creativity. I look forward to staying in touch.🤗
Just when you think you can't take any more of her sharp, often barb, opinions and high handedness, David writes the most poignant, elegant and true sentence you can read. Her complications beat the hell out of the competition. Hope you enjoy her! (and isn't that a cozy parlor?!)
Great recap Pat! Some I hadn't read before and really enjoyed today! You do get around! :-) Looking forward to your writing in 2025!! My best to you and your sweet husband and family in the New Year!
I will be opening doors and windows and sweeping 2024 out at 11:55 PM tonight. Then I’ll invite the new year in at the stroke of midnight. May 2025 bring health, safety, peace, happiness and sanity to All!
Happy New Year Vicki, as I to you, too. P.S.: my niece who was the recipent of your art has not taken off the wolf mask you so beautifully made!....she's 26 years old and wearing it to her NY party!

Thanks Dana! That means a lot. I can't wait to start reading your newsletter!

That pic of Brontë’s parlor! And thanks for pointing me to Elizabeth David, and the link to your piece on her. Definitely worth a closer look.

What a genius idea! Happy New Year, Kate!
The Lord of the lard icing. Oh how my mind desires more!
Didn't read it, did you? xo
No, I didn’t. But I will.
A charming round-up! I'm looking forward to what you share in 2025. Happy new year!
